Description George Avrunin 2010-02-18 21:40:43 UTC
Created attachment 394990 [details]
file that gives working settings with the rpms from Openoffice.org, but not with Fedora rpms

Description of problem: On Fedora 12, x86_64, OpenOffice Writer does not retain the settings in Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org Writer -> Changes. In particular, setting the changes to be colored by author only holds until I exit OpenOffice.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.1.1-19.26.fc12.x86_64 and ealier

How reproducible: 100%.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a document, go to Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org Writer -> Changes and set the changes to be colored by author, click ok, exit OpenOffice.
2.Open the same or another document, and the color for changes is [None] again.
3.

Actual results: color by author setting doesn't persist

Expected results: setting should persist (in fact, it should be the default)

Additional info: I tried removing my .openoffice.org directory and starting fresh, but that didn't work. I tried with a new user, but that didn't work. color-by-author does seem to be the default (and persist if you change to something else and change back) on my one 32-bit Fedora 12 machine, but not on any of my 64-bit boxes. Following a suggestion on the mailing list, I removed the Fedora rpms and installed the ones from the OpenOffice.org website. After doing the "export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome" trick to get OpenOffice to stop segfaulting in kde, setting to color-by-author works fine. I even tried removing the rpms from OpenOffice and reinstalling the Fedora ones, but using the same .openoffice.org directory, but the Fedora rpms seem to ignore the settings in .openoffice.org/3/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Writer.xcu when the color is set to -1 (for color by author). I have attached the working Writer.xcu produced by the rpms from the OpenOffice.org website.

This problem is not new with Fedora 12.

Comment 1 George Avrunin 2010-02-18 22:01:05 UTC
The comment in step 2 to reproduce isn't quite right. The color for changes is blank when you restart. [None] is actually a distinct setting.

I also tried this with a new user in gnome, instead of my usual kde, and had the same problem, so it's not an artifact of kde.
