Created attachment 396459 [details]
Screenshot of broken font behavior, with gnome-terminal showing same font correctly at the same time.

Description of problem:

I'm running F12 and pulled down the KDE 4.4 updates on Feb 24. I'm no longer able to use the monowidth console fonts I've been using so far, as they're rendered very poorly. Worse, the text editing behavior is broken too as the cursor is displayed several characters ahead of the actual position, rendering konsole effectively unusable. The problem is specific to KDE, as the same fonts work fine in GNOME apps.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kdebase-4.4.0-3.fc12.x86_64

How reproducible:

Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open konsole

Actual results:

Unreadable font, broken text editing behavior.

Expected results:

A working terminal emulator. :)

It's some problem with bitmap fonts. This has been discussed on IRC (but only after we already pushed the update to stable). Just for the record: what graphics driver are you using? (But it doesn't seem to be dependent on the graphics driver.)

The easiest solution is to just use a scalable font instead, e.g. DejaVu Sans Mono (or the default "Monospace" which is an alias for it).

Thanks Kevin. I'm using the Intel driver.
