Can you try the rawhide package here? (7.40) In my testing on Fedora 13, it goes into fullscreen mode without problems.

I've just tried alienarena-7.45-1.fc14.x86_64 ... yes, this version goes into fullscreen without any problems but it breaks my dualhead setup then ... after starting the game, it sets the secondary screen to a mirror of the primary, and it does not reset it to the original state after the game quits
