Description Ralf Corsepius 2010-03-03 09:42:24 UTC
Description of problem:
The versions of perl(Module::Build) bundled with the main perl package are outdated:

FC13: perl-Module-Build-0.3500 (Aug. 2009)
FC12: perl-Module-Build-0.3200 (Feb. 2009)
FC11: perl-Module-Build-0.3200 (Feb. 2009)
rawhide: perl-Module-Build-0.3500 (Aug. 2009)

Expected results:
Fedora to ship current packages.

Additional info:
I am facing issues with upgrading a perl-module (Params::Validate-0.95), which would want Module::Build >= 0.36 (== perl-Module-Build-0.3600).

Fortunately,
* The Params-Validate update is non-critical and not user-relevant (The updates essentially is a testsuite improvement).
* Params-Validate-0.95 also builds with it's dependency on Module::Build >= 0.36 removed (i.e. with me deliberately hacking a bug into my package).

So, perl-Module-Build exists in CVS already. I think any of us in the "Perl cabal" :) could resurrect it at this point, with the modifications discussed (ownership, files in core rather than vendor, etc). I could also use this -- there are a few packages I'm blocked from updating until we have 0.36 available.

I believe so, feel free to take it. I didn't find old review ticket, so we might create new one.

Comment 3 Chris Weyl 2010-03-29 01:12:10 UTC
I'm trying to get the package resurrected, and new branches made... I don't "own" the package, so I'm not entirely sure how to do this.

Steve, you own perl-Module-Build. Can you take a poke at it in the pkgdb and see if you can resurrect it?

Comment 4 Marcela Mašláňová 2010-04-06 09:26:02 UTC
I believe for resurrecting dead package it's needed removing block of dead package in collection and file a review ticket ('cause I can't find the old) and cvs request for change.

Comment 5 Kevin Fenzi 2010-04-08 02:36:32 UTC
If it has been dead more than a month or so it needs a review. File a new review ticket for it and get it accepted via the review process.

This package seems to have been dead since 2008, so it needs a new review.

Could someone take the review? #580447

This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '11'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

I'm still working on it.

Comment 10 Marcela Mašláňová 2010-11-12 08:43:23 UTC
F-12 is EOL
F-13 0.35
F-14 0.3603

The whole process was quite slow. Hopefully, Module::Build is not blocking other packages in F-{13,14}.
