Created attachment 406431 [details] lspci -vv I have the same issue using the Fedora 13 Beta live dvd on a Sony Vaio BZ12XN, Intel Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
This may be related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515246 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556253
Could you try to pass 'video=LVDS-1:e' (without single quotes) to the kernel on boot to see if that helps ?
A new version of the Intel driver, xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-1.fc13, has just been added: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-1.fc13 . Can you please test with this version and see if the bug is reproducible? If you have an installed Fedora 13, you can download and install the driver from the Koji link. If you are testing with live images, the nightly live images from 2010-04-17 (or possibly 2010-04-18) onwards should include this version: http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/desktop/ . This comment is being added to all open Fedora 13 intel bugs, please ignore if it does not make sense in the context of your bug.
The new Intel driver didn't change anything for me, still only a blank screen during boot. Passing the 'video=LVDS-1:e' (without single quotes) option to the kernel on boot enables the screen and seems to be a valid workaround (Sony Vaio BZ12XN - Intel 4500 MHD) at the moment.
I'm sorry, I see the new driver isn't in the latest nightly build yet, so I can't draw any conclusion.
Hello I'm wanting to use Fedora 14 on an Sony VAIO VPCZ13M9E and have the same problem. Everything seems to be working excepted the GPUs (X11). The Notebook has two GPUs. One, the common, seems to be Intel. The other I'm wanting to use is NVIDIA GForce GT330M. The problem appears on booting in X11. It always results into an dark screen. The only way to use X11 on this PC is to use “vesa”, which is unacceptable:(( boot setup: title Fedora (2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64) root (hd0,4) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64 root=UUID=... rd_MD_UUID=... rd_MD_UUID=... rd_NO_LUKS rd_NO_LVM rd_NO_DM LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYTABLE=de-latin1-nodeadkeys nomodeset rhgb i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2006\" acpi_backlight=vendor xdriver=vesa initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64.img It boots in an low resolution (1024x768) X11 Intel-Screen which does not support 3D and high resolution. And if the Notebook switches into low power mode (Screen-Safer), the screen backlight will not switched on again. It always comes up from screen-safe-mode to normal state with an dark screen :(( There are a lot of discussion and “repair-instructions” on the WEB but nothing of them (I was able to follow) works for me. This NVIDIA/INTEL and other such problems seems to till exist since a few years on most devices of SONY. Possible SONY does not pass all the needed information about their Computers to its costumer. May I will ask for help here. What could I do to get the NVIDIA GPU working on this PC. mfg j.
Please file a new bug, yours is not the same as this one. I have a Z (slightly different specific model number to yours) and the NVIDIA graphics are fine in Linux, though the Intel graphics don't work unless you use a much newer kernel than F14's. You might want to try both ways with this kernel: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=208625 it may well help (though for me, it breaks sound...) -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
