Description Misha Shnurapet 2010-03-10 10:22:44 UTC
Since the upgrade from F11 about 2 months ago I have been experiencing little annoyance with gpk-application.

bash-4.0$ rpm -qa | grep PackageKit
PackageKit-device-rebind-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-yum-plugin-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-gstreamer-plugin-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-glib-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-gtk-module-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64
PackageKit-yum-0.5.7-1.fc12.x86_64

Each time I install or remove a package, the root-password dialog fails to come in focus. You have to click the main window each time to see it.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run gpk-application;
2. Try to install or remove a package; something that requires the password.

The package manager waits for authentication while you wait for the authentication request.

First I thought it was because of some window manager options, but I failed to correct this behavior (such thing happens *only* with the package manager). I am out of ideas.

polkit-gnome actually shows that dialog, re-assigning.

Comment 3 Misha Shnurapet 2010-03-10 11:02:16 UTC
Sorry, and thanks for correcting. The software is:

polkit-gnome-0.95-0.git20090913.6.fc12.x86_64
polkit-desktop-policy-0.95-0.git20090913.3.fc12.noarch
polkit-0.95-0.git20090913.3.fc12.x86_64

I still see this in my up-to-date F12, F13, and F14 Alpha installations. I normally use Compiz on my F12 and F13 installs but I've seen this bug while using Metacity. I haven't even tried Compiz on F14 yet.

Comment 6 Bug Zapper 2010-11-03 20:14:02 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 7 Ira Malinich 2010-11-04 21:38:25 UTC
This problem still happens in Fedora 13 and, I believe, Fedora 14. I will try to confirm. I have already developed a habit of either triggering the Expo plugin in Compiz or holding <alt> after pressing <alt>+<tab> to watch for a new window every time I do anything in the package manager.

Comment 8 Misha Shnurapet 2010-11-05 08:24:33 UTC
Works like a chime in Fedora 14.

Comment 9 Ira Malinich 2010-11-06 08:34:26 UTC
I'm seeing the problem with Metacity in Fedora 14. Does anyone else still see this?

Comment 10 Misha Shnurapet 2010-11-06 12:35:18 UTC
The password window is brought to front, but the focus is elsewhere. So you can't just start typing the password right away.

I'm sorry that I have to reopen it.

Thank you.

Comment 11 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-11-13 14:10:13 UTC
Confirming with Metacity on Fedora 14 (since there seemed to be some doubt here).

Comment 12 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-11-13 14:14:17 UTC
...And it also happens with Compiz.

Comment 13 Bug Zapper 2010-12-03 17:36:38 UTC
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 14 Ira Malinich 2010-12-03 22:15:31 UTC
This bug has been confirmed to affect Fedora 14 under both Metacity and Compiz. I'm re-opening and reclassifying this bug under Fedora 14. It is known to affect Fedora 13 as well, but I'm hoping it will get more attention as a F14 bug.

Comment 15 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 21:50:30 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.
