Created attachment 400048 [details] X session error file, run with '--debug' Building a standard F11 live cd, against the current F11-updates repo, results in something that hangs when you try to log out of GNOME. The only change I've made to the standard F11 kickstart files is to enable the F11-updates repo. I've done the following: 1. Create the 64-bit live cd 2. livecd-iso-to-disk -> usb stick 3. Boot up 4. Log in 5. Log out 6. Sob for mummy I presume this is a gdm bug, but it is very hard to track down since it's a system hang. (It's not actually a complete system hang, it's just that keyboard and mouse are unresponsive; but one can log in over the network.) This is killing me. I've spent several days trying to bugfix my custom stuff, only to discover that it's not my bug at all, and it's in the standard F11 build. I have run gnome-session with the --debug flag, and then got it to the point of a hang, and attached the .xsession-errors. I am happy to do more debugging if someone can tell me what to do. But I hope that the kickstart thing will give you enough info to be able to reproduce it. It doesn't happen in F12 with exactly the same setup. James
I have tracked this down to xorg-x11-drv-synaptics. To verify and reproduce this, try the following: 1. Build the standard F11 live cd from the release repo, or download the iso. 2. livecd-iso-to-disk -> usb stick 3. Boot up 4. Log in 5. Log out All should be well. Now 6. yum update xorg-x11-drv-synaptics and reboot. Log in and log out again, and watch it hang. I have no way of checking whether this happens on a fully installed system, but I can't see why it should be any different on a USB stick. This seems like a pretty serious bug to me, and worthy of an F11 fix. The problem does not appear in F12. James
Ray: This needs reassigning to whoever is in charge of xorg-x11-drv-synaptics. Looks like I can't change the Assignee field. Could you please reassign? Thanks.
could be a fd that wasn't reset properly. does the scratch build from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=2057755 fix it?
Thanks for looking at it! I'm afraid 1.1.3-3 doesn't fix it, though. Still the same problem. James
This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '11'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

oops, sorry - wrong ticket.
Fedora 11 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-06-25. Fedora 11 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
