A kernel panic may be triggered by the lpfc driver when multiple Emulex OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapter initiators are included in the same Storage Area Network (SAN) zone. Typically, this kernel panic will present after a cable is pulled or one of the systems is rebooted. To work around this issue, configure the SAN to use single initiator zoning. (BZ#574858)

Description Vaios Papadimitriou 2010-03-18 17:19:59 UTC
Description of problem:
This is a request to add a release note about a possible panic that may occur with the RHEL5.5 in-box LPFC driver version 8.2.0.63.3p.

This is the recommended release note:

Possible panic when multiple Emulex OneConnect initiators are in the same SAN zone

Background
When multiple OneConnect UCNA ports from different hosts running the 8.2.0.63.3p LPFC driver are included in the same zone, panics may occur on cable pulls or system reboots.

Workaround
This issue has been addressed in subsequent LPFC driver revisions.
To work around this issue, configure the SAN using single initiator zoning.

I will queue this BZ up for 5.6.

Note that the Technical Note is for 5.5.

Emulex: We can ship the fix for this in 5.5.z. That seems appropriate considering the severity. Agreed? If so, please post a patch here, targeted at fixing this specific problem.

Technical note added. If any revisions are required, please edit the "Technical Notes" field
accordingly. All revisions will be proofread by the Engineering Content Services team.
