Description of problem: With this driver selected (or HP LaserJet 4250 CUPS + GutenPrint) whatever document I try to print the printer just keeps giving first page endlessly until stopped from it's own control panel. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.10.2-2.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info:
What does this say for the queue you are using?: grep '^\*NickName:' /etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd
/etc/cups/ppd/hp_LaserJet_4250.ppd:*NickName: "HP LaserJet 4250 Postscript (recommended)"
Can you please try printing a test page using the printing troubleshooter? https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Printing/Debugging#Printing_troubleshooter When the printer starts repeating the page, stop the printer printing using its control panel and cancel the job using the job viewer (available by clicking the printer icon in the notification area). Please attach the troubleshoot.txt file you end up with.
Created attachment 408295 [details] Prelast page of trobleshooter I'm attaching 2 files: one from prelast page of troubleshooter and one from the last one. By the way. I wasn't able to cancel the task or stop the printer from my system. Though task ended successfully (according to queue manager) and printer returned to 'ready to print' it really continued to print test page endlessly until I turned it off. This does not happen with hpcups pcl3 driver for this printer, which works just fine.

Can you try using the generic PostScript driver and see if that also behaves in the same way? Double-click on the printer icon in system-config-printer, click 'Change...' next to Make and Model, select Generic (first item in the list) for the manufacturer and choose "PostScript Printer" for the model. Select "Generic PostScript Printer [en]" for the driver.
Generic Postscript creates this problem too.
So, next thing, can you try using a different backend such as the socket backend? Let's see if we can eliminate hplip from the problem. Double-click on the printer icon in system-config-printer, then click on the 'Change...' button next to Device URI. Then expand 'Network Printer' and select 'Find Network Printer'. Enter '192.168.100.200' for the host and click Find. You should be presented with a variety of connection options. Choose one that does not involve HPLIP.
With URI lpd://192.168.100.200/PASSTHRU and Generic PostScript driver problem persists.
OK, problem is definitely not hplip but might still be CUPS. Even more likely to be the printer, I'd say, as no-one else has reported this symptom. Are you able to try printing to this printer from another operating system altogether? Has it previously worked with Fedora?
I remember postscript worked in earlier versions of fedora (I think 9). The problem appeared in F10 (as far as I remember).
Created attachment 413403 [details] testprint.ps from F-9's cups-1.3.10-5.fc9
Please try printing the attachment in comment #15 like this: lp -oraw -dhp_LaserJet_4250 testprint.ps How does that behave?
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
