Description Xixi 2010-04-05 23:31:08 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #579588 +++

Description of problem:
There's currently the confusion for some users to
just activate a new certificate then conduct an yum update and consider it an
"Satellite upgrade." Filing this bug along with bug 579588 and bug 579585 as discussed with Cliff & Justin to help reduce the number of cases where Satellite upgrades go wrong due to customer not being aware of Satellite upgrade procedure.

We should add a warning to RHN Sat. Cert. activation UI such that, upon detecting a higher version of Satellite than the previous certificate, it outputs a warning/reminder something to the effect of "this Satellite certificate is of a version higher than currently used. If you are performing a Satellite upgrade, please consult the Satellite upgrade documentation at <link to docs> before performing the upgrade".

where <link to docs> is the link to the official documentation as part of bug 579585

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Red Hat Network (RHN)

How reproducible:
Always.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Activate a 5.3 cert for a 5.2 Satellite.

Actual results:
Activation of a Satellite cert succeeds without additional output regardless of version.

Expected results:
Activation of a Satellite cert that's of a higher version should have additional output to remind/point user to Satellite upgrade documentation.

As you may already be aware, Red Hat is transitioning from the Red Hat Network (RHN) hosted interface to the Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) interface in July 2017. Red Hat has invested in and seen success from RHN for many years, and used that experience to build more robust technologies like RHSM.

If you have not yet migrated your RHN systems to RHSM or you are a Red Hat Satellite customer, please review the information from. https://access.redhat.com/products/red-hat-subscription-management#migration.

Since we are shutting down RHN, no further actions will be taken with this bug or enhancement request. You can find additional information at RHSM product page (https://access.redhat.com/products/red-hat-subscription-management). If you have further questions, please contact support (https://access.redhat.com/products/red-hat-subscription-management#support).
