Description of problem: Beginning with kernel version 2.6.32.9-67, the Intel graphics under X flickers on my Gateway netbook. The flicker occurs after boot-up or after waking up from suspend. Switching screens a few times (with Alt-F2, Alt-F1) clears up the problem. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Originally seen with: kernel-2.6.32.9-67.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.5-5.fc12.x86_64 Still present on: kernel-2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.6-1.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot or wake from suspend. Running xrandr appears to get the display into the same state. Actual results: Nasty flicker. Expected results: No flicker. Additional info: Hardware: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller rev 7 on a Gateway EC1456u netbook xrandr output: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 256mm x 144mm 1366x768 60.1*+ 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
Still present in kernel-2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64. Another data point. During a recent incidence after waking from suspend, Gnome reported the following in a pop-up on each flash of the screen: Could not switch the monitor configuration could not set the configuration for CRTC 64
More data: This can also be triggered by starting the totem media player. Moving the open window around the desktop clears the flickering.
Just some additional notes, I too am experiencing this problem on a Dell Studio 1558 wit the integrated i3 video [00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12)]. The flicker is most noticeable on certain colors, like dark grays. Also, it seems to be only the laptop LCD that is affected, not external monitors. I would suspect the LCD panel itself, except that other OSes (namely Win7) work fine.
kernel-2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-4.fc13.x86_64
Seems to be fixed with latest kernel from Koji (2.6.33.4-96.fc13.x86_64).
I aslo have Intel integrated graphics on i3, and test even kernel-2.6.34-0.49.rc7.git0.fc14.i686 - it still flickering. Last normal work kernel is only 2.6.33.1-24.fc13.i686
I also have intel gfx on i3 laptop and got same problem. Down to 2.6.33.1-19.fc13.i686, the screen is ok. The latest one 2.6.33.5-124.fc13.i686 also make screen flicker.
Tested also kernel-2.6.33.5-124.fc13.i686 - still same issue.
Same issue on Lenovo Thinkpad L412, x86_64: 2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Jun 11 09:38:12 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux lspci: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12) xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-4.fc13.x86_64 xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 309mm x 174mm 1366x768 60.0*+ 50.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
Problem still exists in kernel 2.6.33.6-147 and intel driver xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-5.fc13.i686. On resume from suspend, I used to have screen flicker on earlier kernels. But there is no longer screen flicker, instead there are a set of vertical lines of varying lengths all along the 4 edges of the monitor. I have a tablet---and if I switch into potrait mode. The lines remain exactly the same (no rotation). This time, as with the screen flicker from previous kernels and drivers, the problem goes away after shutting the computer down for a long time. Not just by restarting.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
