It looks like this is a new bug in F13; I'm unable to reproduce it in F12. As soon as I get my F13 development box up I'll see if I can get a fix.
backgammon assumes you are running in a terminal that is at least 24 lines tall. If you resize your terminal smaller than 24 lines, it will crash. I'll add a check when the app starts and have it die with an appropriate error message if the terminal is too small.
