Hi Nils! I'm using Fedora 12 now. I have a Canon Pixma MX860 multifunction scanner/printer. In Fedora 12 (and it seems in rawhide too) we have xsane-backends 0.997 - but this doesn't support my printer. It looks like the latest upstream is sane-backends-1.0.20, and that version supports my device according to the Xsane website (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-backends.html#S-CANON) and various blog posts. So I just wanted to request that we get a newer version for Fedora if possible. Thanks!!
Yes, this is a good idea !
Uhm, with F-12 you should be already having sane-backends-1.0.20 (xsane is just the frontend, their versions do not relate, many people confuse these). It seems like there might be a problem in the sane-backends-1.0.20 nonetheless. Can you give me any info about the problem you have? Thanks.
Hum, you're right ! In fact, I posted my comment too quickly due to a bug in xsane, so I thought there was a later version avalaible.
Hi Nils, sorry for the confusion. Well that's weird since 1.0.20 is supposed to support my scanner. What happens when I try to scan, it sees my scanner and it has all the correct options, but whenever I hit preview or scan, it comes back saying 'the operation was canceled.' This is over a network connection to the scanner. This forum has more detail about the error, and there's another Fedora 12 user on there saying they see the problem as well (search in the page for 'operation was canceled' to see it - it's a long page): http://forums.linux-foundation.org/read.php?25,9006 Everyone reports that building xsane themselves resolves the problem, but it seems there must be a way to fix the package? Thanks, ~m
Do you use F-12 on both machines -- the one at which you sit and the one to which the scanner is attached?
Hi Nils, there's only one computer involved - my F12 laptop. The MX860 has a built-in ethernet card and that is how it's on the network.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
