Description David Gurvich 2010-04-19 18:04:17 UTC
Description of problem:
With modesetting there is a fluctuating black screen. Without modesetting there is no GUI but there is a text console.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.10

How reproducible:
Boot any laptop with i830 graphics and a Fedora 13 livecd.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start the laptop.
2.
3.

Actual results:
Fluctuating black screen

Expected results:
Xorg starts, able to use system without crashing.

Additional info:
Attempted adding the following to grub kernel line one at a time.
nomodeset,i915.modeset=0,i915.powersave=0, acpi=off
System hard locked with last two, was able to get to runlevel 3 with first two. The livecd did work on a system with 852/855 video and seemed to run ok.

KMS doesn't work on i852/855 either. Allows booting into GUI but eventually crashes Xorg.
