Description of problem: Sound coming through speakers itself works fine. However, speakers don't automute when headphones are plugged into headphone jack. Also, built-in mic next to webcam doesn't work. Any mic plugged into the mic jack won't get picked up by any program, yet all sounds made through the mic go directly to the speakers, so I hear myself (no program is doing this!). Additional info: Acer Aspire 6530 Laptop lspci results for Audio devices: Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller One of those devices is for sound through HDMI, but I don't require that it works (in case it doesn't either).
Danny, thank you for your bug report. Can you also provide output of alsa-info.sh? It would help in debugging this issue.
Reassigning to correct component.
Sorry for falling into a noob moment, how would I get the output of alsa-info.sh? I ran "alsa-info" in the terminal, but nothing visually happened. hehe
No problem, it's simple. Just run: alsa-info.sh --no-upload --output alsa-info.txt and upload alsa-info.txt here.
I ran that command, seemed to close without errors (or any other notification that it worked for that matter other than going back to $). Can't find the file in case it did put it somewhere (even used Search for File...). Same thing happens when ran as root, or when output is --output /home/USERNAME/alsa-info.txt
Nothing happens either when I do alsa-info.sh --help, just moves on to next $ prompt.
It seems that your system does not have installed the dialog package.
I searched for dialog in PackageKit, and went ahead and installed it....no difference.
I still need help on this please :(
Oh wow, finally, after having to boot up into a LiveCD because I think the alsa-info on my HDD is somehow broke, I finally got the LiveCD to spit some output into a file. So, I'm attaching the file. Hope it helps a bunch! :D Quick note: In Fedora I still have all the problems as mentioned in the first comment, but just for comparison both Ubuntu and Linux Mint are auto-muting the speakers when headphones are plugged in, and it actually picks up the mic next to my webcam, but there is a LOT of static and I'm barely heard on it. But with some tapping right on the mic I could hear it. The mic jack probably doesn't work on there either, but I don't think I tested it.
Created attachment 427028 [details] alsa-info output for my sound hardware
OK, so just on a random idea I tried to see if the speakers would auto-mute when headphones are plugged in while running off of a LiveUSB, since the LiveUSB also had a working "alsa-info". Turns out, the speakers do in fact auto-mute while running the LiveUSB. So does this mean that something is borked and that I should reinstall my system? Also, I would still like help with the mic issue. Haven't tested it in this LiveUSB instance, but it hasn't worked in any Linux distro so far, so I doubt that it'll magically happen.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
