Description of problem: I just loaded Fedora 13. It was a fresh reload. Evolution email has the File --> WorkOnline button greyed out. I cannot select the WorkOnline button to begin to work online. Also, the Send&Receive button is greyed out, and will not respond. The system has been updated using "yum update". Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Evolution 2.30.1.2 How reproducible: Always. Since I loaded the new version of Fedora 13 the evolution email system has not functioned. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start evolution 2. Click File --> WorkOnline (greyed out) 3. Actual results: The WorkOnline button is greyed out, and will not respond. Also, the Send&Receive button is greyed out and will not respond. Expected results: The evolution email system usually starts up in the OffLine mode. The user must click the File --> WorkOnline button to get it to respond to the server. Then the user can click the Send&Receive button to force downloading of emails. Additional info: This system is a standalone system that uses a 56K modem. Evolution worked fine under Fedora 12.
This means NetworkManager is reporting that no network is available. Once NetworkManager detects a network, Evolution will automatically switch to online mode.
Closing this as NOTABUG, unless Evolution is misinterpreting or missing NetworkManager signals.
If this is not an evolution issue, then how do I get NetworkManager to allow evolution connection to the network? The WorkOnline button is greyed out, making evolution non-functional.
This page might be helpful. Looks like you'll need to install ModemManager. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/NetworkManagerBluetoothDUN
Thanks for the information on Bluetooth mobile telephone connectivity. I already have the internal 56K modem set up and it is working properly. This is a standalone workstation. In a terminal I am able to update the system by using "yum update", etc. The web browser also works fine, although it too requires the user to set the WorkOnline flag in order to connect to the internet. The problem is that Evolution does not allow the user to switch the WorkOnline flag to on. The WorkOnline button is greyed out and cannot be changed. In Fedora 12 the WorkOnline flag could be toggled between WorkOnline and WorkOffline in Evolution. This implies that Evolution and NetworkManager are not communicating properly in Fedora 13. Is there a flag within NetworkManager that can be changed that will allow Evolution to connect to the internet? Does this mean that NetworkManager does not think that the internet is connected to the system? How can I configure NetworkManager to correctly sense the presence or absence of the active internet link? Many thanks.
