Description of problem: Amarok 2.3.1 hangs on startup. Switching back to 2.3.0, startup works as expected. Seems to be related to dynamic playlists - by editing .kde/share/config/amarokrc to change Dynamic Mode=true to Dynamic Mode=false startup no longer hangs. After using Amarok for a bit and shutting down, whatever condition caused the hang seems to clear and Amarok can start up normally, even when "Dynamic Mode=true", but the problem typically reappears soon again. Have not been able to determine what actions trigger it, but it only occurs if a dynamic playlist was active at the time of shutting down Amarok, and the last shutdown did not complete successfully (i.e., after selecting "Quit" and all windows closing, an amarok process is left running until manually killed or machine rebooted). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): amarok-2.3.1-1.fc12.i686
Ah, the mention of dynamic mode tickles a memory, I believe there is an open upstream bug about that... let me go hunting.
Here it is, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=235946 reported by our very own rrix
Ah, nice catch. Been fiddling with it trying to narrow it down since reporting the problem. Too bad I didn't check the KDE bug database, and saved me the trouble. :-(
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Bug still present in current F12 and F13 versions of Amarok.
True, the upstream bug tracking this is as-yet unresolved as well.
I am now getting this problem in Fedora 14. Until about two days ago Amarok was working fine, then it started crashing on start up. As stated by BK Changing Dynamic Mode=true to Dynamic Mode=false If you close Amarok with dynamic mode enabled it will not start again. You have to manually edit .kde/share/config/amarokrc. Just to confirm, this has only recently started happening. I have been using Amarok virtually every day since Fedora 14 was released and never had this problem until about two days ago. I think it happened after there were several KDE updates.

Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
