Comment 4 Chris Lumens 2010-07-01 15:48:46 UTC
I see libpng has changed recently, but testing with an updates image containing the old libraries doesn't change a thing. I also see that gtk2 has changed recently. Has something changed in that package such that we need to be including more files to get pngs loaded?

The key messages out of the logs are:

16:45:43,772 ERR anaconda: unable to read anaconda_header.png: Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/usr/share/anaconda/pixmaps/anaconda_header.png'
16:45:43,773 WARN anaconda: can't find pixmap anaconda_header.png
16:45:43,773 INFO anaconda: moving (1) to step welcome
16:45:43,924 ERR anaconda: unable to read splash.png: Couldn't recognize the image file format for file '/usr/share/anaconda/pixmaps/splash.png'
16:45:43,924 WARN anaconda: can't find pixmap splash.png

Comment 5 Ales Kozumplik 2010-07-07 08:09:22 UTC
The first call that fails is

 gtk.gdk.pixbuf_new_from_file(filename)

where filename points to an existing file that I can open allright in F13. It's a .png with transparent parts, attached.

Comment 7 Matthias Clasen 2010-07-07 15:16:24 UTC
Should be fixed in GTK+ 2.21.4, I think

Comment 8 Ales Kozumplik 2010-07-08 12:38:29 UTC
Still the same problem, this is the version that I use in my compose:

gtk2-2.21.4-1.fc14.i686.rpm

Do we also need to install gdk-pixbuf2 even though it has no .png loader in it? (I straced the failing call and gdk is trying to find pixbuf's loader.cache before it fails).

Comment 10 Bug Zapper 2010-07-30 12:19:42 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 14 development cycle.
Changing version to '14'.

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 22:29:35 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
