Description Simon Lewis 2010-07-01 17:39:04 UTC
Many thanks for the monthly updates to the KDE Software Compilation on fc12, currently 4.4.4

Please take the opportunity to build KDE SC against Redland 1.08 for the next update.

Many other (multimedia-)applications cannot be updated on fc12 because of KDE's (fc12) dependence on an old redland library version on fc12

See Bugs 562645 & 496323.

Comment 1 Rex Dieter 2010-07-01 17:58:57 UTC
Last I checked, upgrading beyond redland-1.0.7 was abi-incompatible, and would require rebuilding a number of other large packages (like openoffice.org) too.

Comment 2 Simon Lewis 2010-07-03 09:58:00 UTC
That's my point:

both KDE and openOFFIICE are being regularly updated...

take the opportunity to rebuild against redland 1.08 at the next update and remove the bottle neck for all other apps.

Comment 3 Bug Zapper 2010-11-03 12:37:56 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Please move KDE SC 4.5.2 from testing to stable in KDE forge and this request would then be redundant...............

Comment 5 Rex Dieter 2010-11-03 18:47:02 UTC
We probably will sooner or later.

I don't see how. The packages in kde-redhat are of course built against the version of Redland in Fedora 12, which is 1.0.7.

Since the Redland upgrade is not going to happen, I'm closing this bug.

Hello Rex

Many thanks for the KDE CS 4.52 in KDE-Forges's fc12 Stable - the real highlight is Digikamm / Kipi-plugins 1.50. Great...

The 4.5.2 works perfectly on my Laptop except for one small bug - namely KDE's multi-media system settings dialogue crashes on closing. The developers unwittingly overlooked the fact that pulse-audio may not be installed in a couple of situations - anyway there is a patch that needs to be applied...

Please see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255736

Best regards, Simon
