Description Charles Crouch 2010-07-21 13:25:11 UTC
We should also highlight the fact these changes will not be made retroactively to the name of resources already in inventory

Text

==============

2.2. New Resource Naming Scheme

The default naming method for resources has been simplified. The changes depend on resource type, but names have been shortened to display only as much context as is required, usually the hostname or instance name, IP address, or other identifying name. These names are expanded when the same types of resources are available on multiple hosts or have multiple instances on the same host to provide additional identifiers while still keeping the name concise. This makes resource names clearer and more user-friendly, while making the resource tree navigation easier to read and use.

The resource naming scheme only applies to new resources imported into inventory. Existing resources on JBoss ON server which are migrated to version 2.4 will retain their original resource names.

Joseph, can you correct the text in this paragraph

Comment 3 Lukas Krejci 2010-07-28 07:36:27 UTC
Hmm, I find some of the wording slightly confusing:

Instead of

"These names are expanded when the same types of resources are
available on multiple hosts or have multiple instances on the same host to
provide additional identifiers while still keeping the name concise."

I'd write something along the lines of:

"Search results and other resource lists throughout the whole UI were augmented to better distinguish between colliding names by providing the full paths to the resources. That way you always get an idea where a resource is located (what machine, under which server, etc.)."

Instead of:

"This makes resource names clearer and more user-friendly, while making the resource tree navigation easier to read and use."

I'd say:

"This helps user navigate through the search results more easily. The resource tree uses these new names as well and was enhanced to better convey the types of the resources being shown making it more concise and easier to navigate through."

Of course, change these as you see fit to sound better in English, but I think this would better describe the changes that were made.
