Description Corentin Perard-Gayot 2010-09-07 20:24:59 UTC
Description of problem:
leonidas splash-screen still visible in systemsettings -> workspace appearance. But when you try to click on it there's a message about missing configuration. I assume this is a relicant from Fedora 11 ?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kdebase-workspace-4.5.1-2.fc14.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.click on system settings in the K menu.
2.choose 'Workspace Appearance, 'Splash' category
3.notice there's still a 'leonidas' entry, alas non-functional.

results:
there shouldn't be any leonidas entry, or at least it should be functional. I guess it's better to let it appear when leonidas-backgrounds-kdm is installed

Additional info: Message says 'Impossible de charger le fichier de configuration du theme' wich means (approx) : 'Unable to load theme's configuration file'

Comment 1 Jaroslav Reznik 2010-09-08 12:53:39 UTC
Indeed, it's visible because of fedora-logos installs Leonidas KSplashX logo. Solution would be - obsolete Leonidas theme in newer releases or fixing Leonidas theme to use system Fedora logo.

Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2010-09-08 16:13:03 UTC
triaging to leonidas-kde-theme

Comment 3 Corentin Perard-Gayot 2010-11-04 13:29:18 UTC
Ok, so it seems :

- leonidas-kde-theme must use /usr/share/pixmaps/system-logo-white, correctly scaled (it's the same image, unfortunately not the same size)

- fedora-logos must remove the file /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/Leonidas/logo.png and the associated "Leonidas" Folder from its package.

any news ?

Thanks.

Comment 4 Kevin Kofler 2010-11-04 15:04:19 UTC
We cannot use system-logo-white because it's the wrong size, that's why we have our own logo.png in the first place.

Comment 5 Corentin Perard-Gayot 2010-11-04 15:17:25 UTC
so why not move the logo.png to /usr/share/pixmaps/leonidas-logo.png in fedora-logos rpm and make leonidas-kde-theme use it ?

OR : move the logo.png into leonidas-kde-theme rpm ? So that when the leonidas theme is not installed, there is no Leonidas ksplash theme (best solution for me as it seems only this theme uses this image)

seems to be a trivial fix, I wonder why it's been done this way in the first place. Unfortunately, i'm not able to fix it myself.

Thanks a lot for your interest.

Comment 6 Corentin Perard-Gayot 2010-11-27 18:21:35 UTC
Any news ? is my proposal acceptable ? this is only one file that should be changed from one package to another (/usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/Leonidas/logo.png must move from fedora-logos to leonidas-kde-theme). is there any other way I could help ?

Comment 7 Kevin Kofler 2010-11-27 18:25:39 UTC
> Any news ? is my proposal acceptable ?

No, sorry. For licensing reasons, the ONLY package allowed to contain renditions of the Fedora logo and/or logotype is fedora-logos.

Comment 8 Kevin Kofler 2010-11-27 18:27:06 UTC
(Putting the logo somewhere under /usr/share/pixmaps and having the KSplash themes symlink it from there could work, though.)

Comment 9 Corentin Perard-Gayot 2010-11-27 18:36:32 UTC
Yes. You're right. I didn't see it the first time, but laughlin-kde-theme uses a symlink named logo.png pointing to '../../../../../../pixmaps/system-logo-white.png' (in fact /usr/share/pixmaps/system-logo-white). That should be the right solution IMHO. thanks !

Comment 10 Kevin Kofler 2010-11-27 18:40:56 UTC
Well, as I wrote in comment #4, just using system-logo-white will not work because it's not of the expected size. For the newer themes, we designed them such that system-logo-white could be used.

Comment 11 Jaroslav Reznik 2010-11-29 12:15:53 UTC
Yes,
it should be better for newer themes. I was never a fan of porting old themes to newer releases because of these complications.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 21:59:02 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 13 Kevin Kofler 2013-09-16 16:28:07 UTC
We still don't have a working fix for this issue. (Removing the logo from fedora-logos as proposed in bug #631826 breaks the themes, so I had to revert it when Rex tried to commit that.)

What we really need is to fix the KSplash KCM to only list those themes that actually have a valid config file.

Comment 15 Jan Kurik 2015-07-15 15:18:47 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle.
Changing version to '23'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.)

Comment 16 Paulo Fidalgo 2015-11-17 10:55:47 UTC
After upgrading today to FC23 I don't have the leonidas anymore.

Comment 17 Than Ngo 2016-09-29 10:16:39 UTC
feel free to reopen it if the bug is still shows up in latest kde. Thanks
