Description John Watzke 2010-09-11 03:05:57 UTC
Description of problem:
Can't start uzbl-browser

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. execute uzbl-browser
2. Fails to start

Actual results:
$ uzbl-browser
cp: cannot stat `/usr/share/uzbl/examples/config/config': No such file or directory
Could not copy default config to /home/jwatzke/.config/uzbl/config

Comment 1 Ben Boeckel 2010-09-11 03:43:44 UTC
I think the proper fix for this involves two steps:

 * Getting uzbl to load the global config by default if the latter step fails (upstreamable)
 * Getting uzbl to pop up a dialog directing the user to install the uzbl package which contains the default configurations (Fedora-specific, maybe parts can be upstreamed)

For the time being, what do you say to moving "examples/config/*" from "uzbl" to "uzbl-core" package?

I have a pull request that fixes this here:

    http://github.com/Dieterbe/uzbl/pull/10

We can patch for Fedora to make the message more meaningful. I suppose checking for something like zenity -> kdialog -> Xdialog could go in there as well in case it's not run in a terminal.

Hi Ben,

Shall we start testing your fix in rawhide? I think it is a good timing :)

Oops, forgot to comment here and it looks as though my previous build failed :/ . Rebuilding now.

Comment 6 Bug Zapper 2011-05-31 13:51:31 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '13'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 7 John Watzke 2011-05-31 15:28:14 UTC
I can't remember what version this was in F13 but on F14 it's still happening with:

uzbl-core-0-0.18.20100626gitafc0f873e.fc14.i686
uzbl-browser-0-0.18.20100626gitafc0f873e.fc14.i686

This is probably in F15 and just missed F14. Will have to test this in F15 sometime.

Well, actually there are builds for F14 and F13:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=238793
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=238794

and an F15 update in updates-testing:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/uzbl-0-0.25.20110402gite7578e27c.fc15
(updates for F14 and F13 seems not yet)

Could you test it on F15 some day?

Comment 9 John Watzke 2011-06-03 04:52:55 UTC
Sure, I'll try to test it on F15 this weekend. Could you get the F14 update pushed to updates-testing? I can try it out there as well.

Any luck?

Comment 11 Fedora Admin XMLRPC Client 2011-10-27 02:00:10 UTC
This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 22:06:36 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that

would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it

"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.
