How to reproduce
-----
This happened when I accidentally started the second copy of calibre; while that second copy
was importing an ePub book, I closed the first running calibre copy. That produced this crash.

Right. This is the f14 version of a bug thats been around a while sadly.

Basically when you close calibre it closes down fine and gives this traceback.

A bit of Q&A:

Question: Does this cause any issues?
Answer: No, it's completely cosmetic. calibre shut down just fine, all your data is fine, nothing is changed. It's just a traceback on quitting.

Question: Is there anything to do here?
Answer: I am looking for a solution, which might include just disabling abrt from seeing this as an issue to report.

So, please be patient, and know that this issue doesn't really cause any bad behavior.

Comment 26 igor.redhat@gmail.com 2010-11-21 20:04:36 UTC
BTW, I tried running the latest calibre from source (0.7.29) and it looks like this "trace on exit" is no longer there.

Comment 27 Kevin Fenzi 2010-11-21 20:09:26 UTC
Yeah, can you try my 0.7.29 from:
http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/kevin/calibre/

I bet it still happens there. ;( It's something specific to our build setup or env, it doesn't happen with upstream source builds.

Comment

Yesterday i could still download a newsfeed. Now it won't even do that anymore. It just crashes while i want to download a newsfeed. I have to do a reboot because force quit doesn't seem to be working either. This pretty much circumvents the bug reporting tool as well. Sad to say that calibre has become pretty much useless for me on Fedora.

This sounds like a completely different bug. This bug is just a cosmetic crash on quitting the application.

Can you file a new bug describing the issue with feeds not downloading?

I simply closed calibre. The Kindle 3 was still attached and I did not eject it in the software; not sure if that makes a difference. I think this happens every time I close it. Also, I am using gnome shell on my Fedora 14 system.

Sorry it's not fixed yet, but I have been unable to track down whats causing it.
Patches or fixes welcome. In the mean time it causes no real issue.

Comment

I installed calibre using "add/remove software", opened calibre, and closed calibre, and got the crash message.
I had this same problem using a previous version of Fedora and installing the same way.
I thought that this bug had been fixed, but I guess not.
The workaround fix is to uninstall using "add/remove software" and then do a binary install using the instructions at http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux.
It works perfectly that way.

Comment 89 Kevin Fenzi 2011-01-16 16:58:03 UTC
Please test the package in updates-testing.
See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=642877#c87 for instructions.

The fix is still in updates-testing because it's not gotten sufficent feedback yet to push as a stable update. Please test. Thanks.
