Description of problem: Calculator doesn't offer any longer conversion between decimal and hexadecimal; there is no option in any mode any longer - but such an option existed already in Fedora 12 and lower. I want this option back ASAP, please. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gcalctool-5.30.1-1.fc13.x86_64 How reproducible: Everytime, see above. Actual results: Calculator doesn't offer any longer conversion between decimal and hexadecimal Expected results: Calculator needs to be able to convert between decimal and hexadecimal, again like in previous Fedora releases.
Ping? May I get some feedback here?
Yeah, what gives? Not sure what has been done to remove the conversion buttons here since they exist on a recent ubuntu machine that I use at work. Extremely annoying given that conversion from binary, octl, hex and decimal was one of the main reasons I use the calculator. Has anyone tried to compile the tool from sources? Maybe it's an rpm build issue.
i noticed that conversion seemed to go missing at some point too. for what its worth never had much luck running f13 but it looks like gcalctool-5.32.0-1.f14 (x86_64) gcalctool-6.0.1-2.f15 (x86_64) has the function back in programming mode where there is a constant display of binary in a large field below the input field and also a small running conversion line (with cool base subscripts) right between the input field and the binary display field below it. (dont know if it would fit well as numbers get longer but it might be nice if the small conversion line showed more formats at once b2:b8:b10:b16) (might be nice to have the input field labeled with the subscript of its base too for clarity.) noticed that the pulldown box (select among binary/octal/decimal/hexidecimal) on the left just below the input field does do a conversion of the input field when press the '=' equal sign. thought thats a bit combersome cause i never seem to be able to find the equal or clear buttons when i need them lol. anyway you might want to give those a look.
In F15, it does work if you hit Enter after entering a number. Once the number has been entered changing the base (binary, octal, decimal or hex) will perform the conversion. A little cumbersome, but much better than previously.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
Fixed in gcalctool-5.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64 - fortunately.
