Description of problem: Previously I could create live USB versions from both offical Fedora 13 LiveCD image and Fedora Remixes like Fusion Linux that I maintain. I tried using liveusb-creator with Fedora 14 Beta LiveCD and Fusion Linux 14 Beta LiveDVD images but I get non-bootable USB :( Same iso image works in virtual machines (kvm and virtualbox) and when burned to physical medium. Any idea why? How can I provide more info? Fusion Linux image can be download from here if needed for testing: http://fusionlinux.org/downloads/ Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info:
Got help from livecd mailing list and as suggested by Scott tried using livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr --noverify whatever.iso /dev/sdNn livecd-iso-to-disk method works so I guess that the issue is with livecd-creator? or not?
I am unable to reproduce this issue. I'm wondering if it's just that the gparted call that the liveusb-creator makes to mark your partition as bootable is failing. After you have a working key with the livecd-iso-to-disk, can you try using the liveusb-creator again to see if it creates a working stick?
Can you also please attach the output of 'liveusb-creator -v', and your working/notworking syslinux.cfg? Thanks!
I have some inconsistent results, as soon as I make sense of them I'll report back.
I tested liveusb-creator (luc) and livecd-iso-to-disk (litd) and transfered iso to 3 usb sticks with such success: Fedora 13 with both luc and litd - usb boots Fedora 13 XFCE with both luc and litd - usb boots Fusion 13.2 with both luc and litd - usb boots Fedora 14 XFCE with both luc and litd - usb fails to boot Fedora 14 Beta with both luc and litd - usb fails to boot Fusion 14 Beta with both luc and litd - usb fails to boot I eliminated both usb stick as an issue and used both tools at my disposal. I also used official fedora images and my own Fedora remix. My conclusion is that Fedora 14 images have some bug. Please test this with Fedora 14 Beta live cd iso.
As reported by Valent, I too faced the same issue. I had downloaded Fedora 14 live cd for i686. When i tried to install that using Fedora's LiveUSB Creator for windows on Windows XP SP3, live usb was created. But when i booted with this, i only get a single line about EBios. No GRUB prompt. I tried the same with LiLi USB Creator, which i downloaded from http://www.linuxliveusb.com/. The results were the same. I do see the directories: boot, EFI, LiveOS, syslinux and the LiveOS directory contains livecd-iso-to-disk file.
I faced the same problem too. I tried to create live usb stick with the live cd iso and the dvd iso, I couldn't any live usb from these images in Windows 7 64-bit. I could boot the usb stick on my computer, but it displayed the version of syslinux and that's it. On the other hand, I tried with the newest version of LiLi USB creator(version 2.6); it worked for the live cd (KDE spin) not the dvd iso.
I released a new Windows version of the liveusb-creator that should hopefully fix this problem. Please let me know if it does. http://liveusb-creator.fedorahosted.org
Hi, i can confirm the bug, i'm not able to create a working usb stick with fedora14 live image with liveusb-creator. The error reported is always no root device sleeping forever. I tried the livecd-iso-to-disk command as well, but the result is the same. So i guess Valent is right, Fedora 14 live image is buggy. Thanks, Roberto.
I had inconsistent results, 1st install failing almost always and subsequent ones mostly working. I used F14-kde --reset-mbr. One issue I did run into is that live-usb creator may be rather touchy whether the USB was mounted or not and how it was mounted. In some cases I got messages that something could not be written but no clue what was wrong. Another issue was that the persistent storage seemed to work only after some installs, possibly related to the size issue as I use an 8GB USB.
It seems I have the same bug. Live-USB can't load if it have FAT32/Fat16 filesystem. But with EXT2 filesystem it boot perfectly. Motherboard Gigabyte GA-785GMT-USB3 Flash drives Kingston 2 GB and Transcend 8GB.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
I tested Fedora 15 live iso and it works.
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
