Description of problem: l-i-t-d fails to create a bootable USB from an iso containing the grub bootloader and multiple Live CD iso images. By contrast, the same iso burns a bootable 5.3GB DVD-R(DL) disk with a full grub menu containing (IIRC) sixteen entries. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 033-3 for x86_64 (could not test on i366) How reproducible: 100% Steps to Reproduce: With Fedora-14-Live.iso image in root's home directory and 8GB thumb drive as /dev/sdc: # livecd-iso-to-disk --format --resetmbr Fedora-14-Live-multi.iso /dev/sdc Actual results: Verifying image... /root/Fedora-14-Live-multi.iso: Could not get pvd data Unable to read the disc checksum from the primary volume descriptor. This probably means the disc was created without adding the checksum. Are you SURE you want to continue? Press Enter to continue or ctrl-c to abort WARNING: THIS WILL DESTROY ANY DATA ON /dev/sdc!!! Press Enter to continue or ctrl-c to abort Warning: The resulting partition is not properly aligned for best performance. Waiting for devices to settle... mkdosfs 3.0.9 (31 Jan 2010) ERROR: /root/Fedora-14-Live-multi.iso does not appear to be a Live image or DVD installer. Cleaning up to exit... Expected results: Write a bootable, working image to the USB thumbdrive. Additional info:
I also suffer from this problem. Fedora 13 x86_64 livecd-tools.x86_64 033-3.fc13 I cannot create a bootable drive from any of my .iso files (which worked correctly previously) Ignoring the warning WARNING: THIS WILL DESTROY ANY DATA ON /dev/sdc!!! Press Enter to continue or ctrl-c to abort trashes the USB stick which has to be rebuilt.
It looks like this multi-image iso is using grub. livecd-iso-to-disk will not work with it, it was written to work with standard live cds which use syslinux instead of grub.
Brian, I understand why the current l-i-t-d doesn't work with this multi-image iso. I thought the purpose of an RFE was to request enhancement beyond a current capability. Does your closing of this RFE indicate rejection of the concept in that request? --Doc
I have the problem with small iso files NOT large ones, livecd-iso-to-file does not work at all now. Take this for example, which I put on a USB stick last year, just 245 MByte -rw-rw-r--. 1 mhd mhd 245114880 May 13 2009 systemrescuecd-x86-1.2.0.iso /home/mhd: su -c "livecd-iso-to-disk /u2/iso/cd/systemrescuecd-x86-1.2.0.iso /dev/sde1" Password: Verifying image... /u2/iso/cd/systemrescuecd-x86-1.2.0.iso: Could not get pvd data Unable to read the disc checksum from the primary volume descriptor. I'd rather see the Live-multi.iso built in the same (or similar) way as the official LiveCD. I am not familiar with the project, do you know why they chose grub over syslinux?

It copies a number of files from the original iso in order to make the USB bootable. I have no idea what the iso's you are referring to are, but if they aren't LiveCD's they likely won't work.
Brian, I don't know why they chose to use grub, but it's a novel concept that offers a flexibility that syslinux probably could not. If this would be beyond the scope of l-i-t-d, perhaps it could point to a new utility for livecd-tools. --Doc
