Description Silvio Cesare 2010-11-08 03:47:21 UTC
Description of problem:

mrpt-opengl embeds opengl which embeds a copy of lib3ds which is prone to CVE-2010-0280.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Name: mrpt-opengl
Version: 0.9.0
Release: 0.2.fc13

Additional info:

lib3ds might end up embedded in other mrpt packages, but I haven't investigated any further.

The relevant vulnerable code:

BUILD/mrpt-0.9.0/libs/opengl/src/lib3ds/mesh.c

See also:
[1] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2010-0280

and patch from:
[2] https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633475#c4

for further information, how to address this problem.

Also: Please consider the package in Fedora-13
to use system lib3ds library, which is not vulnerable to this
flaw already. This is the preferred way of fixing the deficiency,
as could be helpful also in future cases like this one.

Thanks for this. It also looks as though mm3d is vulnerable to this as well.

Comment 2 Jose Luis 2010-11-09 00:38:51 UTC
Thanks for reporting this issue. I have fixed it upstream in SVN HEAD [1], so it will come fixed in the next stable release.

Comment 3 Bug Zapper 2011-05-30 14:02:36 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '13'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 4 Vincent Danen 2011-05-30 16:58:18 UTC
This has been resolved in Fedora 14+ (0.9.4-0.1.20110110svn2383), so closing this bug.

Comment 5 Turkinator 2011-06-09 04:26:29 UTC
Draft technical notes content created by Turkinator:

This component embeds a component which is vulnerable to CVE-2010-0280. This vulnerability has been patched upstream and the patch incorporated into Fedora. As a result, Fedora 14 and later versions are no longer vulnerable to this issue.
