Description srh 2010-11-14 09:57:45 UTC
Description of problem:

Name : evolution
Arch : x86_64
Version : 2.32.0
Release : 2.fc14

Name : evolution-exchange
Arch : x86_64
Version : 2.32.0
Release : 1.fc14

Connected to a MS Exchange account using evolution-exchange.

I view the Exchange calendar. I open up an existing appointment in the calendar. I select the 'Categories' option in the 'View' menu of the appointment window. I can now click the 'Categories' button. I create some new categories, and also decide to delete some of the pre-created default categories such as Anniversary, Birthday, Business, Competition, Favorites, Gifts etc because I don't want these categories cluttering up my custom list of newly made ones. I tick one of my new categories for this appointment, the OK button becomes available to click, so I click OK.

I then click 'Categories' button again the appointment window, and find all the deleted categories have come back again. But I already deleted them, and I don't want them.

Bug - when categories are deleted (even the pre-created ones that come with Evo), they should remain deleted. They remained deleted in Evo 2.30 in Fedora 13.

Built-in categories are not deletable. The bug is that the dialog allows allows you to click Delete when a built-in categories is highlighted.

Comment 2 srh 2010-11-14 22:36:33 UTC
Is there any particular logical, user-interface related reason why the pre-created built-in categories should not be able to be deleted if the user chooses?

I see them as a range of example categories pre-created to show the user how the categories function may work (ie. tagging relevant appointments/tasks according to various real-life aspects). However, quite naturally, many of the pre-created category names will not actually be relevant and used for each individual user, and thus will be unwanted, and therefore should be deletable.

I don't use any of the built-in categories and I have created 6 new categories that I need. Annoyingly, this results in me having to scan down a much longer list of categories for my 6, amongst a longer list of 44 built-in categories (including things like Weather:ClearNight etc). I'd rather just delete the other 38 to save time (I change categories on appointments/tasks very often).

I thought this too, but there was a bug in the categories handling routines, none category could be deleted. This was fixed in [1] and is part of 2.32.1 release.
