Description Ivan Virgili 2010-11-21 19:25:00 UTC
Description of problem:

Wired and wireless networks are detected, but network connection cannot be activated. Everything works fine if using default login manager.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

slim-1.3.2-2.fc14.i686
NetworkManager-0.8.1-10.git20100831.fc14.i686

How reproducible:

Install Fedora 14 and use slim as login manager

Maybe some session services needed by NM aren't started? That would be weird.
Anyhow, I don't know NM at all; re-assigning to NM for now.

BTW, I forgot to add that I have the same problem on 2 completely different laptops. One had a brand new F14 installation, the other got a "pre-upgrade".

This is not NetworkManager-specific problem, rather consolekit or slim/consolekit interaction issue.
If you run ck-list-sessions, you will see that both active and is-local are FALSE.
It's probably caused by this ConsoleKit commit that is more strict in setting local and active sessions:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/ConsoleKit/commit/?id=4f88228f31a63c026c424a92827f26ad7535275c

Reassigning back to slim; CCing ConsoleKit guys for thoughts.
