Spec URL: http://www.geofrogger.net/review/esniper.spec
SRPM URL: http://www.geofrogger.net/review/esniper-2.24.0-1.fc13.src.rpm
Description:

Esniper is a lightweight console application for sniping eBay auctions.

Comment 1 Martin Gieseking 2010-11-30 08:07:30 UTC
Hi Volker,

here are some initial comments on your spec:

- adapt Source0 according to
  http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/SourceURL#Sourceforge.net

- If you plan to maintain this package for EPEL < 6 too, please add a
  BuildRoot tag. Otherwise, you can also drop the %clean section and
  rm -rf %{buildroot} from %install.

- replace %{_mandir}/man1/%{name}.1.gz
  with %{_mandir}/man1/%{name}.1*
  since you should not rely on a specific compression format applied by
  rpmbuild because it might change

- add the %doc files NEWS, README, TODO

- I also recommend to add the sample configuration files as %doc

I excluded NEWS, README and TODO on purpose, because their content is dead-old. Should I add them anyway?

The sample configuration is also on the man page. Do you think I should add it still?

I did the rest.

> Should I add them anyway?
No. Sorry, I obviously didn't read them properly enough.

> The sample configuration is also on the man page. Do you think I should add it
> still?

Yes, I think so. It doesn't hurt to have them as separate files.

Comment 4 Volker Fröhlich 2010-12-03 00:50:06 UTC
Done

I also added a frontend script, I haven't noticed before.

More specific files section and added another sample file.

Comment 7 Martin Gieseking 2011-02-25 14:42:23 UTC
Hi Volker,

the package looks almost fine. Please preserve the timestamp of the manpage. You can accomplish this by extending the iconv line this way:

iconv -f iso8859-1 -t utf-8 esniper.1 > esniper.1.conv \
  && touch -r esniper.1 esniper.1.conv \
  && mv esniper.1.conv esniper.1

Also, append INSTALL="install -p" to "make install".

Comment 9 Martin Gieseking 2011-02-25 17:24:14 UTC
The definition of INSTALL is still missing. ;)

Comment 11 Martin Gieseking 2011-02-25 18:27:59 UTC
OK, the package looks good now.

$ rpmlint /var/lib/mock/fedora-14-x86_64/result/*.rpm
esniper.x86_64: W: no-manual-page-for-binary snipe
3 packages and 0 specfiles checked; 0 errors, 1 warnings.

There's no manpage available for snipe, so the warning can be ignored.
