Description Eddie Lania 2010-12-10 22:03:07 UTC
Description of problem: during startup in messages log: file /bin/plymouthd seems to be deleted

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

plymouth-0.8.2-3.fc13.i686

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. On running fedora 13 system cleanly installed observe this message in the syslog.

2. set default theme with "plymouth-set-default-theme charge"

3. Try to generate new initrd with: "plymouth-set-default-theme -R"

Actual results:

the command "plymouth-set-default-theme -R" displays:
 /usr/share/plymouth/themes//.plymouth does not exist

altough the command "plymouth-set-default-theme" displays:
 charge.

Expected results: The initrd to be correctly generated and the error messages:

Dec 10 21:58:39 hestia abrt[1797]: file /bin/plymouthd seems to be deleted
Dec 10 21:58:40 hestia abrt[1797]: saved core dump of pid 142 (/bin/plymouthd) to /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-1292014720-142.new/coredump (2396160 bytes)
Dec 10 21:58:40 hestia abrtd: Directory 'ccpp-1292014720-142' creation detected
Dec 10 21:58:41 hestia abrtd: Executable '/bin/plymouthd' doesn't belong to any package
Dec 10 21:58:41 hestia abrtd: Corrupted or bad crash /var/spool/abrt/ccpp-1292014720-142 (res:4), deleting

not to be show in the syslog.

Additional info: This bug has been reported several times. And it seems there is already a patch available but seems not to make it through though.

Comment 1 Eddie Lania 2011-02-26 13:03:19 UTC
Okay, it seems to be solved by executing:

plymouth-set-default-theme charge --rebuild-initrd

But after a reboot with the newly generated initramfs a new problem arises:

Press 'I' to enter interactive startup.

Investigation of the /var/log/messages results in:

Now how am I going to solve that "device-mapper: ioctl: device doesn't appear to be in the dev hash table" error?

Regards,

Eddie.
