Description of problem: Using xorg-x11-drv-nouveau on a motherboard (asrock N68C-S-UCC) with integrated Graphic nvidia geforce 7025 causes the graphical login screen (kdm or gdm) to be garbled and unusable. Removing /usr/lib64/xorg/drivers/nouveau_drv.so and using vesa_drv.so instead works also, but with reduced resolution. Using the same harddisk in a machine with an nvidia geforce 8400 GS card works fine. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-nouveau.i686 1:0.0.16-14.20101129gitf29afe6.fc15 kernel 2.6.37-0.rc7.git0.2.fc15.i686 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot normally, wait until X starts 2. Watch the garbled Login screen. 3. Actual results: Garbled login screen ("blind" login is working, but screens stays garbled) Expected results: Crystal clear login screen with kdm and high resolution. Additional info: http://pastebin.com/R3NVhgBY shows dmesg http://pastebin.com/0Qp3ujMA shows Xorg.0.log
interestingly similar symptoms to 665202, ben - both apparently show properly during boot then switch to garbage when X kicks in... -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
This bug appears to be related to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669783 If you find a fix, please be so kind and inform them as well Workarounds: add "nouveau.noaccel=1" to the boot command in grub
Can you grab me a screenshot of this please? Also, if you can blindly login and run (alt+f2 for a run dialog box) "xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1280x1024" (maybe try some other resolutions too), do things improve?
Created attachment 491348 [details] Screenshot This screenshot was made on Fedora 15 Alpha KDE live cd 64bit using ksnapshot some more material: http://pastebin.com/HfMBBx4g dmesg http://pastebin.com/bAK4Rmib lspci http://pastebin.com/eNPc8Vet Xorg.0.log I tried changing the resolution with xrandr by doing the following: -waited till boot was done -Alt+F2 - xhost + Ctrl+Alt+F2 (F1 is unusable as well) login (root/no passwd) xrandr shows nothing remarkable xrandr --output VGA-1 --mode 1280x1024 ->xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed xrandr --output DVI-D-1 --mode 1280x1024 ->xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed --off doesnt work either tried the same blindly -> no reaction, so i guess the same error (btw: this was double blind, because the german keyboard layout isn't loaded ...) thanks for your work Simon
this is fixed with kernel-desktop-2.6.38.4-22.1.x86_64 on openSUSE
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 19 development cycle. Changing version to '19'. (As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 19 development cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 19 End Of Life. Thank you.) More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping/Fedora19
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 19 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-01-06. Fedora 19 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
