Description of problem: Currently, zbar will use libv4l to enumerate the supported formats, without checking if the format is provided by the hardware or via software emulation. This can lead to choose a sub-optimal format and generate format conversion twice. Instead, use an enhanced algorithm that will only use the emulated format if the hardware doesn't provide a format that zbar recognizes.
