Description jthiru 2011-01-13 14:42:50 UTC
Description of problem:
Could not install RHEL 5.5 on Core i7 Intel Mobile 6 (Cougar Point) chipset in graphical mode. So proceeded with text installation, but fails to identify SATA deisk attached, guess due to unable to identify newer SATA controller/device in Core i7 Intel Mobile 6 chipset. BIOS and RHEL 6 detects the drive connected.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL 5.5 32 bit and 64 bit both exhibit the same issue.

How reproducible:
Everytime

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install
2.
3.

Actual results:
Unable to install due unable to show storage disk during installation

Expected results:
Installed system

Additional info:
RHEL 6 32 bit and 64 bit installation and booting goes fine with the same hardware.

RHEL5.5 does not support Cougar Point SATA controllers. Please contact your support representative and upgrade your RHEL5 kernel.
