Description kanda.motohiro 2011-01-18 15:08:48 UTC
Description of problem:
2.3.1. Installing and Configuring JACK
says
"With the default configuration of QjackCtl, it chooses the "default" sound card, which actually goes
through the ALSA sound server. "

But it seems to be a typo of "JACK sound server" since ALSA is a driver.

This is a grammatical problem, not a technical one. The sentence should read something like, "By default, QjackCtl configures JACK to use the 'default' sound card. The 'default' sound card uses all features of the ALSA driver, even though JACK provides the same features. To save memory and processor time, you should configure QjackCtl with a specific sound card."

Does this clear it up? If you like this revision, I will incorporate it into the draft version of the Guide, so you can verify it's been fixed, in context. Please feel free to suggest an alternate revision.

Thanks for your help improving the Musicians' Guide!

Thanks. It's clear now.
I thought this section told how to bypass JACK sound server in case you needed very low latency.
I now understand this corresponds to jackd --device option and how to tell jackd to pick up a specific sound card when you have several on USB port, PCI slot and PC on-board.
Please close this case.
