Created attachment 475677 [details] dmesg Description of problem: I have a Dell Vostro 3300 with a hybrid graphics cards laptop (Intel and Nvidia cards). Nvidia call this technology Optimus. The problem is that this technology is not supported under Linux. At boot, the i915 Intel driver load up fine but the nouveau driver load too. The problem is that it cause the plymouth boot screen to flicker or don't work at all. In some case, event after the boot was done, the screen was not usable. I explained in my blog post on how to disable nouveau : http://jfsaucier.wordpress.com/2011/01/23/disable-nouveau-driver-on-hybrid-graphics-cards-laptop - First, blacklist the nouveau driver : echo “blacklist nouveau” >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf - Add rdblacklist=nouveau to the end of your grub.conf kernel parameters list - Rebuild you initrd with this command : mkinitrd -f /boot/initrd-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-0.0.16-11.20100826git065576d.fc14.i686 How reproducible: 8/10 on laptop boot. A co-worker have the same problem on the same laptop model. Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Fedora 14 on Dell Vostro 3300. 2.Boot the laptop with no modification made. 3. Actual results: The plymouth boot screen may be flickering. Expected results: No flicker, the boot screen should work fine. Additional info: Normally, the nouveau driver should not load at all because the Nvidia card is not used at all. When the technology is not supported, just the "small" card, in this case the Intel one, work. If you need more informations, I will gladly provide it!

This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version' of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX. (Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.) Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on "Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that version of Fedora. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
