Description vesselam 2011-02-03 05:37:30 UTC
SELinux is preventing /opt/Samsung/SmartPanel/bin/smartpanel from using the 'execstack' accesses on a process.

***** Plugin allow_execstack (53.1 confidence) suggests ********************

If you believe that
None
should not require execstack
Then you should clear the execstack flag and see if /opt/Samsung/SmartPanel/bin/smartpanel works correctly.
Report this as a bug on None.
You can clear the exestack flag by executing:
Do
execstack -c None

***** Plugin catchall_boolean (42.6 confidence) suggests *******************

If you want to allow unconfined executables to make their stack executable. This should never, ever be necessary. Probably indicates a badly coded executable, but could indicate an attack. This executable should be reported in bugzilla
Then you must tell SELinux about this by enabling the 'allow_execstack' boolean.
Do
setsebool -P allow_execstack 1

***** Plugin catchall (5.76 confidence) suggests ***************************

If you believe that smartpanel should be allowed execstack access on processes labeled unconfined_t by default.
Then you should report this as a bug.
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access.
Do
allow this access for now by executing:
# grep smartpanel /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
# semodule -i mypol.pp

I have mfp ... samsung scx 4623f ... connected with usb cable ...
downloaded driver from samsung site ... installed the driver ...
but whenever I print I get the error from SElinux ...

even the command

semodule -i mypol.pp

did not help.

with regards.

Comment 2 Miroslav Grepl 2011-02-03 11:33:56 UTC
So the following commands

# grep smartpanel /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
# semodule -i mypol.pp

did not fix the issue?

Did you try to execute

# setsebool -P allow_execstack 1

my comments are inline ...

it did not fixed the issue ...

what I have done is: I have started:

system --> administration --> SElinuxManagement

and made the
system default enforcing mode : permissive
current enforcing mode: permissive

and ticked
relabel on next reboot

and then rebooted.

eventhough SELinux gave the same warnings I got it printed.

I would prefer in enforcing mode but ... I had to get this printer working.

I will try it and let you know.

with regards.

What kind of app is smartpanel? Java? Mono?

chcon -t execmem_exec_t /opt/Samsung/SmartPanel/bin/smartpanel

Will allow the smartpanel app to have this access.
