Description Mamoru TASAKA 2011-02-10 06:59:29 UTC
Description of problem:
Mass rebuild for F-15 is done and unfortunately ruby-gnome2,
especially ruby-panelapplet2 won't build [1].
Fedora 15 is switching to GNOME3, API changed between
gnome-panel 2 and 3, and since the upstream declared that
panelapplet2 support was deprecated [2][3], I am going to
kill panelapplet2 support (especially because currently
it does not build).

Currently on F-15 only gnome-applet-sshmenu depends on
ruby-panelapplet2. How do you think of this?

Comment 1 Mamoru TASAKA 2011-03-05 10:24:44 UTC
Now I've killed panelapplet2 support on rawhide, and will kill it
also on F-15.

Comment 2 Jason Haar 2011-04-27 01:13:46 UTC
I've just installed F15beta and gnome-applet-sshmenu is one of the first "can't live without" packages I install - well - failed to install

If sshmenu is being dropped, what is replacing it? I can't believe I'm the only Unix-head who accesses 100s of servers and wants categories/etc. Also, it still shows up as an installable package - but errors due to the ruby dependency.

Comment 3 Matthias Saou 2011-07-09 18:59:10 UTC
The sshmenu applet won't be available any more with GNOME 3, until upstream updates it to be compatible somehow. Since the last update to sshmenu was from 2009, I wouldn't hold my breath :-(

As a side note, I would recommend using revelation and its GNOME applet... though I don't know if it works with GNOME 3 either (as I've been holding back moving to GNOME 3 on my own "main" machines for now).

Comment 5 Fedora Update System 2011-07-12 04:50:40 UTC
Package sshmenu-3.18-5.fc15:
* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora 15 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing sshmenu-3.18-5.fc15'
as soon as you are able to.
Please go to the following url:

then log in and leave karma (feedback).

Comment 6 Jason Haar 2011-07-12 08:22:24 UTC
That update hasn't anything to do with this bug report. sshmenu works fine - it just doesn't integrate into gnome-shell

It used to be that it showed up in the taskbar, because gnome-applet-sshmenu did the "wrapping" - but that doesn't work with gnome3

I've added the same comment to the feedback link mentioned too

Comment 7 Matthias Saou 2011-07-12 14:48:39 UTC
The update is relevant to this report : F15 no longer provides GNOME2 ruby bindings since it ships GNOME3, so sshmenu's applet will no longer be available instead of being available but broken. This is at least until upstream does something about this (or anyone else, patches welcome).

The update is useful in order to fix upgrade paths : The newer sshmenu package now obsoletes the latest known gnome-applet-sshmenu package.

If you can't live without gnome-applet-sshmenu, then I'd recommend you don't upgrade to F15 just yet, sorry.

I'll be pushing sshmenu-3.18-7.fc15 shortly since that one will have the proper "Obsoletes" which was still missing from sshmenu-3.18-5.fc15 (hence the autoqa failure : autoqa looks neat!)
