Description of problem: Applications using libcrypto can't start before /usr is mounted, because libz is located in /usr/lib. In RHEL6, the library was moved to /lib, it would be nice to have that in RHEL5 too. To avoid problems with programs looking in /usr/lib for a symlink pointing to /lib might be necessary there. This is blocking bug #470945. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): zlib-1.2.3-3
Technical note added. If any revisions are required, please edit the "Technical Notes" field accordingly. All revisions will be proofread by the Engineering Content Services team. New Contents: Previous versions of the zlib package installed shared libraries to the /usr/lib directory (on 64-bit systems, also in /usr/lib64). Consequent to this, when the /usr directory was on a separate partition, certain applications may have been unable to start before this partition was mounted. This update changes the installation target for these libraries to /lib (and /lib64 on 64-bit systems) to ensure that these libraries are available before /usr is mounted. For compatibility reasons, the /usr/lib directory (on 64-bit systems, also /usr/lib64) now contains symbolic links to these libraries.
