+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #454936 +++ Description of problem: missing font package (and possibly wrong/outdated aterm package) included in F14 x86_64 xfce iso. Previously fixed in fc10 (Bug #454936). Cloned Bug #454936 due to Closed-bug status and apparent lack of attention. *I apologize if this is not standard procedure for such case.* Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): aterm-1.0.1-6.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. yum install aterm 2. try running aterm 3. find/read Bug #454936 4. yum install xorg-x11-fonts-misc Actual results: # aterm aterm: can't load font "7x14" aterm: can't load font "k14" aterm: can't load font "k14" aterm: aborting # yum install xorg-x11-fonts-misc Package xorg-x11-fonts-misc-7.2-12.fc14.noarch already installed and latest version Expected results: It should work. --- Additional comment from triage.org on 2008-11-26 05:59:16 EST --- This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '8'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 8 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping --- Additional comment from triage.org on 2009-01-09 01:40:18 EST --- Fedora 8 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-01-07. Fedora 8 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Could you give a list of font packages you have installed.
As a side note: I cannot reproduce this problem here. It was fixed with adding the require on xorg-x11-fonts-misc as described in #454936. I suspect that your setup does not look for fonts in /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/. It should read the font configuration from /etc/X11/fontpath.d/. Maybe take a look at your Xorg.0.log for suspicious output...

as a side note, aterm build manually works fine.
Thanks for reporting. Could you please also check the xorg log. If a manually build aterm works (given the rest is fine) it could be related to the compile options. --enable-fading --enable-background-image \ --enable-next-scroll --enable-utmp --enable-wtmp \ --enable-menubar --enable-graphics -enable-kanji \ --enable-big5 --enable-greek --enable-ttygid \ --enable-xgetdefault --with-term=rxvt \ --x-includes=%{_includedir} --x-libraries=%{_libdir} I would suspect maybe xgetdefault or one of kanji, big5.
