This is related to not having clear picture of status between imagefactoryd & boxgrinder.  The qmf2 implementation will impact this quite a bit, so I think we've moved enough things out of the way to allow testing of images & we should test for regressions when the new qmf2 imagefactory integration makes its way into the code.
