Description Steven Hardy 2011-02-22 15:42:26 UTC
Description of problem:

When using the File->SaveAs "Select File Type by extension" option, the window resize logic is broken such that the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons are off the bottom of the screen. This is a particularly a problem when using on small laptop screens.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
GIMP 2.6.9

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open GIMP
File->New->OK
File->SaveAs, click "Select File Type (by extension)"
Observe that the bottom of the dialog never returns when the "Select File Type" option is deselected

Actual results:

dialog buttons off the bottom of the screen requiring close of the file-save dialog

Expected results:
Selecting/Deselecting the "Select File Type" list should return the dialog to its original dimensions

ask your support representative to propose this request, if
appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat
Enterprise Linux. If you would like it considered as an
exception in the current release, please ask your support

Comment 3 Nils Philippsen 2011-03-03 17:26:07 UTC
I can confirm the observed behavior. I've looked into this together with upstream and found out that the issue has to be fixed in gtk, as the GtkFileChooser methods used for adding the "Select File Type" expander to the chooser hide all details of how this widget is added to the file chooser, i.e. we can't tweak it to shrink the dialog when being collapsed.

Changing component to gtk2.

Comment 4 Nils Philippsen 2011-03-04 09:59:29 UTC
Michael Natterer (of GIMP upstream) submitted a patch to gtk which, if incorporated, would allow specifying the desired behavior for the "Select File Type" expander:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is in the Production 3 Phase. During the Production 3 Phase, Critical impact Security Advisories (RHSAs) and selected Urgent Priority Bug Fix Advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available.

The official life cycle policy can be reviewed here:

http://redhat.com/rhel/lifecycle

This issue does not meet the inclusion criteria for the Production 3 Phase and will be marked as CLOSED/WONTFIX. If this remains a critical requirement, please contact Red Hat Customer Support to request a re-evaluation of the issue, citing a clear business justification. Note that a strong business justification will be required for re-evaluation. Red Hat Customer Support can be contacted via the Red Hat Customer Portal at the following URL:
