Description Emerson Burris 2011-03-09 20:28:50 UTC
Description of problem:

Running FC14 64 bit with KDE. I have an atheros wireless card that was working fine for months. Just recently I downloaded and installed some updates I got automatically. After a reboot, I have suddenly lost my wireless connection. I am still able to connect to unsecured networks but my network uses WPA and the status of the connection always freezes on "Awaiting Authentication". When connecting, it pops up the secrets windows asking for the wpa key even though its already entered. (Only tested on WPA, though others are having issues with WPA2 as well as other chipsets)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Feb 7 07:06:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

kde-plasma-networkmanagement-libs-0.9-0.35.20110221.fc14.x86_64

How reproducible:

Reproducible by attempting to connect to an encrypted wireless network.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click on NetworkManager icon in system try or run NetoworkManager.
2. Attempt to connect to encrypted wireless network
3. Connection status will freeze on "Awaiting Authentication."

Actual results:

No connection to encrypted network.

Expected results:

Connection to encrypted network.

Additional info:

Dmesg output after attempting connection to WPA network.

[root@localhost ~]# dmesg | grep wlan0

[ 15.560046] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

I am having the same problem.
I have the following card:

06:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100

I believe it was caused by the following update:

Comment 2 Emerson Burris 2011-03-10 00:31:21 UTC
Yesterday I received updates of

NetworkManager.x86_64 1:0.8.3.997-1.fc14 updates
NetworkManager-glib.x86_64 1:0.8.3.997-1.fc14 updates

When the issue first started the versions of both packages was 0.8.3.996x. This update has not fixed the issue.

Comment 3 Hernán Schmidt 2011-03-10 02:48:47 UTC
According to someone on Fedora Forums, the culprit is kde-plasma-networkmanagement:

"Workaround: Uninstall kde-plasma-networkmanagement -> install NetworkManager-gnome (grrr) -> run nm-applet (not again!!!) -> wpa works fine..."

Comment 4 Warren Sanders 2011-03-10 20:09:14 UTC
This is not limited to x86_64

Comment 5 Jirka Klimes 2011-03-11 10:45:33 UTC
Wireless work for me for both WEP and WPA, with both KDE plasma applet and nm-applet.

My packages:
NetworkManager-0.8.3.997-1.fc14.x86_64
NetworkManager-gnome-0.8.3.997-1.fc14.x86_64
kde-plasma-networkmanagement-0.9-0.35.20110221.fc14.x86_64

Could you please include /var/log/messages where NM logs are written to?
Also detailed log from wpa_supplicant could be interesting?
(http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManager/Debugging "Debugging WiFi connections")

Look also at http://userbase.kde.org/index.php?title=NetworkManagement and grab output of your connection with qdbus or qdbusfornm please.

I'm fairly sure this is the same bug as bug #682972.

If you can provide the requested logs, please attach them to bug #682972. We really need all information we can get to get this fixed as soon as possible.

After viewing /var/log/messages and wpa_supplicant it looks like I am able to authenticate and connect, but then kde-plasma-networkmanagement asks for a password again and the authentication is botched.
