Description of problem: Right clicking over the desktop, when the menu appears, there is a graphical corruption/artifact before the correct stuff is drawn. It only happens the first time. Example: pess the 'f' button to launch the menu, the fist time it does have te graphical artifacts, but the next time the menu appears, it does it ok. The artifacts/corruption happens before the actual drawing is finished, so it is purelly cosmetical. (it is ugly but it works, the final menu or area is not corrupted) Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-server-Xorg.x86_64 1.9.99.1-6.20101201.fc15 kdebase-workspace.x86_64 4.6.1-1.fc15 Kernel 2.6.38-0.rc8.git0.1.fc15.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-ati.x86_64 6.14.0-2.20110204gita27b5dbd9.fc15 How reproducible: easy (the easy way is with the install cdrom image) Steps to Reproduce: 1. on the desktop, right click or launch the menu right after logon 2. if it does not apear, do something different then retry (there seems to be some type of cache) Actual results: Graphical artifacts/corruption before the area (of the right click menu, for example) is completely drawn. Expected results: No corruption. Additional info: Desktop effects are disabled (default) No custom boot kernel parameters. The graphical artifact/corruption looks like an old C64 undefined sprite.
This is almost certainly a driver bug, reassigning.

I also opened bureport: Bug 683911 - amd hd5670 does not pass all rendercheck tests
Performed a yum update & reboot, it is still there. New versions: xorg-x11-drv-ati.x86_64 6.14.0-5.20110204gita27b5dbd9.fc15 kdebase-workspace.x86_64 4.6.1-3.fc15 xorg-x11-server-Xorg.x86_64 1.10.0-3.fc15
Well, i found that the described here 'corruption' is also present in a nvidia card, so it is not radeon specific. I installed F15 Alpha on another spare machine (an old S757 AMD64) I did not see the corruption in my Wind U100 (intel). Also, from MORE frequent to LESS frequent: DE Off DE OpenGL / DE XRender Affected cards: PCIe, AM3 PhenomII ASUS box: 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5670] [1002:68d8] Onboard, S754 Athon64 MSI box: 00:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C51G [GeForce 6100] [10de:0242] (rev a2)
I should have tested it but i was busy with other bugs also, but better late than never. Tested with enlightenment and i did not see the 'corruption / artifacts'. I dont have gnome, but maybe xfce will do, i will test it. I will test the other machine and test also other wm, but it seems kde specific. Being kde specific may explain it happenning the same way in both nouveau/radeon (?why not intel??).
The 'corruption' seems to have nearly dissapeared, The is still some minor problem when ATL+F2 in KDE and typing a program name for the first time and very fast. I only tested the machine with the redwood (radon hd5670), with the following: xorg-x11-drv-ati.x86_64 6.14.0-7.20110316gitcdfc007ec.fc15 kdebase-workspace.x86_64 4.6.1-6.fc15 xorg-x11-server-Xorg.x86_64 1.10.0-7.fc15
The issue still remains. The longer the uptime and the less the issue manifests. Generally doing something for the first time triggers it the most. I only speak for radeon, since it is the only card i do use.
The issue still remains. kdebase-workspace.x86_64 4.6.3-5.fc15 xorg-x11-drv-ati.x86_64 6.14.1-1.20110504gita6d2dba6.fc15 xorg-x11-server-Xorg.x86_64 1.10.1-14.fc15 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood [Radeon HD 5670] [1002:68d8]
It has been a while since i have seen the corruption. I think it was solved/corrected incrementally some time ago (i do not remember when). Let's give some more time before closing the bug-report.
I did not see the issue for a long time. I did not see the issue with F17 (alpha, beta,rc,release). I am currently using F17. (No more F15). I belive that this bugreport can be closed safely. Please close.
