Description Thibault Nélis 2011-03-23 23:47:04 UTC
Description of problem:
The client doesn't format /var/lib/boinc/acct_mgr_{login,request}.xml correctly (other files/memory regions may be affected). From what I gather, the reason is the use of strcpy() on overlapping strings.

An upstream fix seems to have appeared here:

The best discussion on the problem I could find can be found here (along with another unofficial version of the fix):

The most visible ensuing issue for me is the inability to synchronize with "BAM!".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Version : 6.10.58 Vendor: Fedora Project
Release : 3.r22930svn.fc14 Build Date: Wed 09 Feb 2011 11:22:04 AM CET

How reproducible:
Apparently not 100% for everyone, but so far 100% for me.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup a BAM account on BOINC stats,
2. "Attach" to this account,
3. Synchronize.

Actual results:
BAM returns "acct_mgr_request empty or corrupt!".

Expected results:
Considering the badly formatted XML, this is expected. Fixed, the synchronization should obviously be successful.

Additional info:
Users indeed report the bug as fixed in latest upstream version; I hope the change can be backported in 6.10.58 in this release, as the next upstream stable release doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon.

Thank you.
