Description of problem: Since few days avahi cannot start neither during system boot not manually: # avahi-daemon --debug Found user 'avahi' (UID 498) and group 'avahi' (GID 497). Successfully dropped root privileges. avahi-daemon 0.6.29 starting up. Successfully called chroot(). Successfully dropped remaining capabilities. Loading service file /services/ssh.service. Loading service file /services/udisks.service. Joining mDNS multicast group on interface eth0.IPv4 with address 192.168.6.26. New relevant interface eth0.IPv4 for mDNS. Network interface enumeration completed. Registering new address record for 192.168.6.26 on eth0.IPv4. Registering HINFO record with values 'X86_64'/'LINUX'. avahi-daemon: registering [64test.local]: server.c:899: dispatch_packet: Assertion `iface > 0' failed. Aborted Hardware is virtual machine on top of ESXi (using vmxnet3 driver). Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): avahi-0.6.29-1.fc15.x86_64 How reproducible: Always.
That suggests there is a kernel bug somewhere, in that IP_PKTINFO returned ifindex=0 for a packet wew received. Anyway, I changed avahi upstream now to handle this case. Upload to F15 follows shortly.
