Description of problem: When chosing "log out..." from the user menu in gnome-shell (upper right) the usual dialog window appears, where I confirm my choice "Log Out". After that, the pop up disappears and the screen freezes (mouse can still be moved). I changed tty and logged in as root, hat a look at log files and found simply NOTHING besides: OVER AND OVER AGAIN in /var/log/messages: Mar 25 12:22:45 fedora pulseaudio[6371]: module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working profile. Mar 25 12:22:45 fedora pulseaudio[6371]: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="29" name="platform-thinkpad_acpi" card_name="alsa_card.platform-thinkpad_acpi" tsched=yes ignore_dB=no card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""): initialization failed. OVER AND OVER AGAIN in ~/.xsession-errors: Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module" Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-session.x86_64 2.91.92-1.fc15 gnome-session-xsession.x86_64 2.91.92-1.fc15 gnome-shell.x86_64 2.91.92-1.fc15 How reproducible:always Steps to Reproduce: 1. try to log out of gnome-shell/-session via the menu in the upper right corner 2. 3. Actual results: screen dims and stays dimmed, freezes - only mouse pointer can be moved Expected results: logs out and returns to gdm. Additional info: Waiting really a long time enables gnome-screensaver. Unlocking the screen then brings you back to the frozen (dimmed) screen. Was able to unfreeze by ... # killall -SIGKILL gnome-shell ... from tty.
Found out two things in addition: 1. SIGTERM instead of SIGKILL is sufficient. After that, the user is displayed as "logged in" in gdm and after log in you get "Oh! Something has gone wrong." But clicking on "log in again" after that will start your session flawlessly... 2. Reboot and Shutdown from the upper right menu (with alt-key) will end up with the same freeze. Chosing "reboot" and killing gnome-shell after the freeze leads to a shutdown instead of a reboot.
I log out and reboot now without freezes and errors. Everything _seems_ to work fine, but after boot (reboot) I'm getting on logon via gdm: "Oh! Something has gone wrong." Sometimes after clicking "log in again" it appears again and after that I'm thrown back to the gdm login screen. But after that, logon usually works as usual.
