Description markm 2011-03-30 09:37:43 UTC
Description of problem:

Sometimes I need to keep the screen on for a longer period of time, though I am not touching the keyboard or mouse - ie. during screen calibration, or just to have something on the screen I need to have at glance. There is no way of preventing screen from blanking. inhibit applet is non existent in Gnome3.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnome-power-manager-2.91.92-2.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. System Settings > Screen
2. Try to change "Turn off after"

Actual results:

available values range from "1 minute" to "1 hour"

Expected results:

same as above plus "never"

Additional info:

there is no choice between battery / AC power, no separate settings for those two states - why is that?

...well

   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=647828

was closed as 'notabug' for gnome-control-center

hmm should probably file requestforenhancement for 'arbitrary decay time setting'
but at the moment there is still a request for gnome-screensaver for 'seconds':

   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545338

and there is a gnome-power-manager related 'never option' still open:

   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=663719

so maybe holding off filing for arbitrary the 'arbitrary delay setting'
in hope of obviousness...

its almost like no-one is familiar with the concept of multi screen daylong work anymore? :.) | :./

OK, there was a gnome-hell extension called a 'presentation mode' which no longer works... so when I try to watch programs through iPlayer I need to move mouse from time to time in order to keep screen awake. As flash does not have any control over my screen, it cannot prevent my screen from fading out after x minutes...

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-03 21:17:40 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2013-07-31 22:15:38 UTC
Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
