RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHEA-2011:0540 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE redhat-release enhancement update for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 2011-05-18 17:44:50 UTC

Description Perry Myers 2011-04-11 12:48:17 UTC
Description of problem:
gfs2-utils is in the base channels for RHEL6 and should only be in the Resiliant Storage Add On channel. It was brought into base via a dependency from libguestfs. libguestfs has a bug filed against it (that this bug is dependent on) to remove this dependency.

Comment 3 Dennis Gregorovic 2011-04-13 13:42:23 UTC
Fix checked into distill. gfs2-utils should drop out of base once libguestfs no longer depends on it.

Comment 5 Alexander Todorov 2011-04-19 08:43:59 UTC
In RHEL6.1-20110413.1/Server (i386, x86_64_ gfs2-utils is available only in the ResilientStorage repos.

Comment 7 Ken Hitchcock 2012-11-20 17:17:23 UTC
this issue is still present in RHEL6, recently had a entitlement issue for a customer because of this bug. Do we have any eta when this package will no longer be available in the RHEL6 base channel?

Comment 8 Dennis Gregorovic 2012-11-20 19:16:39 UTC
Ken, can you provide more details on the entitlement issue? The only version of the package in the base channels should be what was there before it was removed in 6.1.

Comment 9 Ken Hitchcock 2012-11-21 09:45:16 UTC
Hi Dennis,

Basically on any RHEL 6.3 system with only the base channel in the RHN, the command yum install gfs2-utils still installs all the tools to create and manage gfs2 filesystems.

I was under the impression this should not be available if you don't have the Resilient Storage entitlement.

I have a customer who managed to install the gfs2-utils and create gfs2 filesystems. When it came time to raises a Red Hat support ticket they were told that in order to get the question answered they required Resilient Storage entitlements.

All im saying is that entitlement mix ups are going to continue to occur if this package is not moved to resilient storage only.

Comment 10 Dennis Gregorovic 2012-11-21 13:33:45 UTC
Hi Ken,

Thanks for the explanation. As a rule, we don't remove content once it has shipped (as you can tell by all of the old packages on RHN ;). However, I'll go ahead and clone bug this into a new bug and we can explore the options.

Cheers
-- Dennis
