Description Tim Flink 2011-04-14 23:58:37 UTC
Description of problem:
After a fresh install of F15 desktop using the Beta RC2 netinstall (with default desktop options) or using the Beta RC2 livecd, the default background for gnome is the gnome3 background (http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/plain/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/stripes.jpg).

The default background on gnome should be the 'Lovelock Stripes' background from desktop-backgrounds-gnome (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Mockingbird-stripes-3-mo-jef_feb15.png).

How reproducible:
I've installed F15 using this method twice now. The same issue is present on the livecd

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install F15 using Beta RC2 media or boot livecd

Actual results:
The default background is the gnome3 stripes background:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/plain/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/stripes.jpg

Expected results:
The default background should be the 'Lovelock Stripes' background:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Mockingbird-stripes-3-mo-jef_feb15.png

Comment 1 Tim Flink 2011-04-15 00:01:53 UTC
Submitting as an F15 final blocker. Violates the following Alpha release criterion:

The default Fedora artwork must either refer to the current Fedora release under development (Fedora 15), or reference an interim release milestone (e.g. Alpha or Beta). If a release version number is used, it must match the current Fedora release under development. This includes artwork used in the installer, firstboot, graphical boot, graphical login and desktop background.

Discussed at the 2011-04-15 blocker review meeting. Accepted as a blocker - could be Alpha criterion "# The default Fedora artwork must either refer to the current Fedora release under development (Fedora 15), or reference an interim release milestone (e.g. Alpha or Beta). If a release version number is used, it must match the current Fedora release under development. This includes artwork used in the installer, firstboot, graphical boot, graphical login and desktop background. " or Final criterion "# The proposed final Fedora artwork must be included and enabled by default for the installer, graphical boot, firstboot, graphical login and desktop background. All Fedora artwork must be consistent with the proposed final theme, and if any artwork contains a graphical version number, the version number used must match the Fedora release number. Generic release artwork (e.g. Alpha, Beta, Development) must not be used for the final release ", but it's definitely one or the other.

Tim notes there is some kind of dependency issue with the proposed update, I'm not sure what.

Tried to test with this update, but there are dependency issues with gnome-background-standard.

New update gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 has already been proposed, will test with that.

gnome-themes-standard version 3.0.0-1 also contained gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch.rpm which depends specifically on gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15. As such, upgrading to gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 hits dependency errors:

Comment 8 Robert Swain 2011-04-16 04:46:09 UTC
Interestingly the gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 package explicitly states that it obsoletes gnome-background-standard <= 3.0.0-1 which suggests a yum upgrade should work as long as the obsolete checking is working properly. Or perhaps these modes I see in the verbose yum output have something to do with it?

sudo rpm --nodeps -e gnome-background-standard
sudo yum upgrade

Comment 9 Kevin Kofler 2011-04-16 05:13:13 UTC
Obsoletes: gnome-background-standard <= 3.0.0-1 doesn't work because 3.0.0-1.fc15 > 3.0.0-1. This is a general issue, you cannot use <= for Obsoletes due to the disttags. You have to write this as:
Obsoletes: gnome-background-standard < 3.0.0-2
