Description of problem: After a fresh install of F15 desktop using the Beta RC2 netinstall (with default desktop options) or using the Beta RC2 livecd, the default background for gnome is the gnome3 background (http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/plain/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/stripes.jpg). The default background on gnome should be the 'Lovelock Stripes' background from desktop-backgrounds-gnome (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Mockingbird-stripes-3-mo-jef_feb15.png). How reproducible: I've installed F15 using this method twice now. The same issue is present on the livecd Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install F15 using Beta RC2 media or boot livecd Actual results: The default background is the gnome3 stripes background: http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-themes-standard/plain/themes/Adwaita/backgrounds/stripes.jpg Expected results: The default background should be the 'Lovelock Stripes' background: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Mockingbird-stripes-3-mo-jef_feb15.png
Submitting as an F15 final blocker. Violates the following Alpha release criterion: The default Fedora artwork must either refer to the current Fedora release under development (Fedora 15), or reference an interim release milestone (e.g. Alpha or Beta). If a release version number is used, it must match the current Fedora release under development. This includes artwork used in the installer, firstboot, graphical boot, graphical login and desktop background.

Discussed at the 2011-04-15 blocker review meeting. Accepted as a blocker - could be Alpha criterion "# The default Fedora artwork must either refer to the current Fedora release under development (Fedora 15), or reference an interim release milestone (e.g. Alpha or Beta). If a release version number is used, it must match the current Fedora release under development. This includes artwork used in the installer, firstboot, graphical boot, graphical login and desktop background. " or Final criterion "# The proposed final Fedora artwork must be included and enabled by default for the installer, graphical boot, firstboot, graphical login and desktop background. All Fedora artwork must be consistent with the proposed final theme, and if any artwork contains a graphical version number, the version number used must match the Fedora release number. Generic release artwork (e.g. Alpha, Beta, Development) must not be used for the final release ", but it's definitely one or the other. Tim notes there is some kind of dependency issue with the proposed update, I'm not sure what. -- Fedora Bugzappers volunteer triage team https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers
Tried to test with this update, but there are dependency issues with gnome-background-standard. New update gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 has already been proposed, will test with that.

gnome-themes-standard version 3.0.0-1 also contained gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch.rpm which depends specifically on gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15. As such, upgrading to gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 hits dependency errors: $ sudo yum upgrade Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Setting up Upgrade Process Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check ---> Package adwaita-cursor-theme.noarch 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 will be updated ---> Package adwaita-cursor-theme.noarch 0:3.0.0-3.fc15 will be an update ---> Package adwaita-gtk2-theme.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 will be updated ---> Package adwaita-gtk2-theme.x86_64 0:3.0.0-3.fc15 will be an update ---> Package adwaita-gtk3-theme.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 will be updated ---> Package adwaita-gtk3-theme.x86_64 0:3.0.0-3.fc15 will be an update ---> Package gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 will be updated --> Processing Dependency: gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15 for package: gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch ---> Package gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-3.fc15 will be an update --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Package: gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch (@koji-override-0/$releasever) Requires: gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15 Removing: gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.x86_64 (@koji-override-0/$releasever) gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15 Updated By: gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15.x86_64 (updates-testing) gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-3.fc15 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Interestingly the gnome-themes-standard-3.0.0-3.fc15 package explicitly states that it obsoletes gnome-background-standard <= 3.0.0-1 which suggests a yum upgrade should work as long as the obsolete checking is working properly. Or perhaps these modes I see in the verbose yum output have something to do with it? ---> Package gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 will be updated Checking deps for gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 - ud gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch requires: gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15 --> Processing Dependency: gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15 for package: gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch Potential Provider: gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 Mode is ud for provider of gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15: gnome-themes-standard.x86_64 0:3.0.0-1.fc15 Mode for pkg providing gnome-themes-standard = 3.0.0-1.fc15: ud Trying to update gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch to resolve dep No update paths found for gnome-background-standard-3.0.0-1.fc15.noarch. Obsoletes: gnome-background-standard <= 3.0.0-1 doesn't work because 3.0.0-1.fc15 > 3.0.0-1. This is a general issue, you cannot use <= for Obsoletes due to the disttags. You have to write this as: Obsoletes: gnome-background-standard < 3.0.0-2
